An avid trekker, I try to cross out as many names from my list in a year as I can. Having been stuck at home throughout the lockdown lost year, I decided to break the sabbatical with this Triund Trek with Thrillophilia. A fairly easy trek in the Mcleodganj region, the Triund Trek is a popular name among trekkers. Strangely however, although I’ve gone through a considerable number of treks in the Himalaya region, this was my first time trekking to Triund.
I was specifically in search of a trekking package that would be easy on the pockets and would fit perfectly into my backpacking trip to the mountains. Although there were plenty of options to choose from, the positive Thrillophilia reviews for this particular package and its extremely attractive price made me go ahead with this one. I’ve never booked a tour online before; I was almost on the verge of not doing it. However, the booking experience turned out to be entirely hassle free. Having gone through the formality, I received an instant confirmation voucher.
It was a 2 days and one night tour, with a night of camping in between. I arrived at Mcleodganj a day before the tour date so as not to exhaust myself, and got a room at a hostel there. The day of the tour, I arrived at the set meeting point- the Bhagsu Taxi Stand- to meet the rest of the group along with our tour guide.
There were seven people in the tour in total, and some of them were even beginners. We began our trek upward. The ascent was pretty gentle, and did not require too much of an effort. The higher we rose, the better views we got of the little valleys below. Halfway along, we made a stop at our campsite in Leta village to unload our bags. Having rested ourselves for some time, we started on the journey again.
Triund, a little village at the foot of the Himalayas, was not too hard to find. An easy to moderate walk of three hours brought us to the hill station. On one side, the Kangra Valley spread towards the horizon, on the other side the mighty Dhauladhar rose majestically behind the town of Mcleodganj. We stayed at Triund for an hour or two. I took advantage of the brilliant light of the place to take a few photographs. Having tired ourselves, we made our way back again to the campsite in Leta. That night, we had a fun bonfire session at camp.
Full with a hearty dinner, the night ended in quite the revelry. The next morning, we awoke early to catch the sunrise from the mountains. With the yellowish orange hues striking against the fantastic white of the Dhauladhars, the sunrise views from camp were to die for. We spent the morning around camp, exploring the little villages on our own. Our guide even led us to a tea shack by the ridge, where we could enjoy a warm cup with resplendent views of the Kangra Valley below us. A little after noon, we started our trek back to Mcleodganj. The downward descent was even easier than the climb, and we managed to reach Bhagsu before time.
I was surprisingly pleased with the tour package and how well the whole trip was carried out, just as the Thrillophilia Positive reviews had promised it would be. With its amazingly low rates, I wasn’t expecting all of the amenities to be in place, but I was really proved wrong! On the night of the camping, we stayed in dome tents on a double sharing basis. The tents were really clean and of good quality, and saved us the hassle of carrying our own tents. Moreover, all our meals were taken care of as well.
We were served freshly prepared vegetarian meals on all days of the tour, starting from lunch on the first day to breakfast on the second one. Besides, our trek leader, who ended up being like a friend to us, was always quick to help and brimming with interesting stories and anecdotes that he doled out from time to time. We were accompanied by a support staff throughout the trek, which included a cook, some porters and a medical expert. The trek team was also equipped with all necessary medical facilities, including first aid, stretchers and oxygen cylinders, should anyone have needed them. The trek itself was a fantastic experience, I’d definitely recommend it to all trekkers, seasoned or not. However, taking the trek with Thrillophilia definitely made a lot smoother!
