Why Is Tennis Such A Great Sport To Play?

by Carter Toni

How many different sports are there to choose from? Although the actual number isn’t known, it’s suggested that there are more than eight hundred different sports and sporting variations in the world, meaning that when it comes to choosing the right sport for you, there’s no doubt that the perfect option exists.

The problem is that with so much choice, it can be difficult to know where to start. How can you tell what you’re going to like the most? The first thing you can do is to look at the reasons why a particular sport is a good one, and tennis is an easy one to start with. Read on to find out why tennis is such a great sport to play.

Less Chance Of Injury

Some sports, like football, rugby, boxing, and so on, require a lot of contact with other players and competitors. This can result in injuries, some of them bad enough to stop you playing for a while or even entirely. Some injuries can affect your everyday life too, decreasing your mobility or causing other issues that make working and enjoying yourself a lot more difficult. Since sports are supposed to be good for you, this is not a great outcome at all.

Tennis is not like that; it is very low contact, and, with the right training and a good warm up, injuries are actually rather rare.

Minimal Equipment

You don’t need much equipment to play tennis. All you really need is a racquet and a ball (or ideally a few balls so that you can keep playing even when one is hit a long distance, for example). You’ll also need to wear trainers and some sensible sporting clothes that allow you to move around. That’s about it.

Of course, ideally, you’ll also have a net. You can buy tennis nets online and install them in your garden or on a more professional surface, depending on where you want to play. They can easily be taken down again when you’re done and stored in a shed or garage until you want to play next time.

Good For Stress

Life can be very stressful. Whether it’s work, finances, your relationship, or anything else, if you’re feeling stressed and overwhelmed, you need to find a way to deal with that stress; otherwise, it can make you very unwell and take away your wellbeing and happiness.

Tennis could be the answer. You are exercising, which means more serotonin is produced in your body – this hormone decreases the amount of cortisol (the stress hormone) in your body, helping you feel good. Not only that, but you can even take your stress out on the ball as you hit it, which will also make you feel great. When it comes to stress management, tennis offers a number of different solutions.

It’s A Great Workout

What’s really wonderful about tennis is that it’s such a good workout. It offers both the aerobic aspect and strength training, meaning that it is a well-rounded workout, unlike other sports that only focus on one thing.

With tennis, you can build your strength and stamina, get your heart pumping, and you’ll have to think fast a lot of the time to ensure you not only hit the ball, but hit it where you’ll want it to go. Every muscle will be used.
