Are You Aware?

The Atal Tunnel was earlier referred to as Rohtang tunnel. On Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s 95th birth anniversary on December 24, 2019, the central government made the decision to mention the Rohtang tunnel as Atal Tunnel to honor former Pm Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

The choice to construct the tunnel in Rohtang was drawn in 2000 when Atal Bihari Vajpayee was the pm.

The Atal Rohtang Tunnel required 14,508 metric tonnes of steel 2,37,596 metric tonnes of cement and also the new Austrian tunnelling way of construction.
