The more you know about yourself, the better your chances of happiness and success. Besides, what’s the point of living if you can’t learn from mistakes?
While much of our thinking is unconscious, some of it is very deliberate. We often resist discovering our blind spots because we’re afraid to admit them. We’re also reluctant to take risks because we don’t want to lose what we already have.Bad habits can get in the way of your success and happiness. But new habits are easier to form than you might think, and they can have a huge impact on your life. You can improve your life in a number of different ways. It just depends on what you want to change, how much time you’re willing to spend on it, and what types of life coaching courses in Australia you want to get yourself enrolled in. Here are a few small changes that most people can make to improve their lives:
1. Get organized
To keep your life on track, start with a list of everything you need to do for the upcoming week or month and stick to it. If you’re a runner, make sure that your training schedule is in place and not just a “to-do” list at the end of the day as you rush out the door.
2. Become a more positive person.
Too much negativity won’t help you reach your goals, so try to be more positive about life — even if it’s just for yourself. If someone, does you wrong (but don’t take it personally), focus on the good things about that situation instead of dwelling on what went wrong. That way, you don’t negate the progress you’ve already made by succumbing to bitterness or anger at every setback or disappointment.
3. Work hard
Work smarter, not harder. It’s important to know what you want out of life before you start looking for a job. Make sure you’re doing something that truly excites you and that pays well — otherwise, you’ll end up dreading every day at work and wasting your time and energy on projects that don’t matter. And while it’s fine to work just as many hours as necessary to make ends meet, it’s better if those hours are productive — especially when they’re spent doing something that matters.
4. Set aside time for the little things
Life should be filled with experiences and adventures — but most people let their schedules get in the way of having fun. The main reason people don’t spend enough time enjoying life is because they spend too much time working or worrying about other people’s problems. If you want to feel good about yourself, make time for fun activities even though that takes away from time spent working or making money.
5. Stop worrying about making more money
There’s no shortage of advice about how to make more money, but the fact is that most people don’t need to work harder or longer hours to earn more money. The reason? Most people don’t know how to spend their money in the first place. Take 10 minutes and look over your finances. See what you spend money on each month and why you spend it there. Try to figure out where you’re wasting it, then change your spending habits accordingly.
6. Improve your health
You don’t need a doctor’s note to take up running or go to the gym. If you’re overweight, exercising is the best way to lose weight and improve your health. You don’t need any special equipment or workout plan. It doesn’t even matter what you’re doing as long as you’re moving — give it a try no matter how you feel about low-impact exercise (like walking) because even that small amount of exercise is better than nothing at all.
7. We overestimate our abilities (wrong)
As one study found, the average person overestimates his or her IQ by 15 points. It’s no wonder that so many people say they’re “above average.” A 12-year study of over 5,000 participants found that people tended to believe they were smarter than average and less intelligent than others. This tendency is also seen in other areas — research shows that most people think they’re better drivers than average and more helpful at home than others in their families.
