Netflix has chosen not to renew the sci-fi series Altered Carbon for a third season.
The eight-episode second season of the cyberpunk drama, starring Anthony Mackie, premiered on February 27, followed by an anime film on March 19.
Netflix’s decision not to continue with more seasons was made in April and is not related to COVID, but is due to the audience review process vs. transmitter renewal cost.
Netflix recently canceled two previously renewed series, The Society and I Am Not OK With This, citing circumstances related to COVID
Altered Carbon was created by Laeta Kalogridis based on the 2002 novel of the same title by English author Richard K. Morgan. His Netflix run is two seasons (and one movie) and coincides with that of another sci-fi series “Sense8” by Wachowski.
Altered Carbon season 2 began 30 years after the epic conclusion of season 1, and found Takeshi Kovacs ( Mackie ), the only surviving soldier of a group of elite interstellar warriors, continuing his centuries-long quest to find his lost love Quellcrist Falconer ( Renée Elise Goldsberry ).
Mackie replaced Joel Kinnaman as Takeshi, who had played the title role in season 1.
