Avoid Aisle Seats on Flights

If you plan to fly, you should be more selective when choosing your seat on the plane. While you can get up easily when you sit on an aisle seat, you aren’t going to get as much rest because of your neighbor getting up and down. However, you may also be exposed to more germs. In fact, a study from the CDC found that passengers who sat in the aisle seats of a plane were more likely to be exposed to a virus. One reason is that walking in the aisle may grab the top of the seat, spreading germs.

Get Plenty of Rest

It doesn’t matter if you are driving to another state, flying to another country, or taking cruises to Mexico from California; make sure you get plenty of sleep during your vacation and travels.

If you are crossing time zones, it may impact your circadian rhythm, impacting your immune system. Try to gradually start shifting your bedtime and waking up at times that match or are close to where you are going. If that isn’t possible, make sure you eat and remain hydrated while traveling. Spending time outside can help you easily adjust to the new time zone, too.

Take Along a First Aid Kit

It’s a good idea to take along a few first-aid supplies while you travel. This is especially true if you plan to travel with children. Some things to include in your kit include DEET-containing bug repellent, ibuprofen for fever or pain, motion sickness medicine, an anti-diarrheal, antibacterial wipe, band-aids, antibiotic ointment, and something for upset stomachs.

Stay Well-Hydrated Throughout Your Vacation

When you are vacationing or traveling and having fun, you may lose track of the amount of water you actually drink. Because of this, you should try to keep a water bottle on hand no matter where you go. Also, get a head start each day by drinking glasses of water when you wake up.

Consider What You Eat and Drink Carefully

If you plan to travel to a less-developed country, make sure you are only eating foods that are prepared properly. For example, eat meat that is properly cooked and hot. Also, avoid raw vegetables and dairy products being sold by independent vendors or that have been left in the sun. You should also learn about the tap water for the country you are traveling to since it’s not all safe for consumption. In most cases, bottled water is the safest bet.

Even though it may be tempting to try all the local food and drinks while you are on vacation, if you overindulge, it can waste your time by upsetting your stomach.

Remain Active

You may think your perfect vacation is made up of laying on the beach all day, but you are going to feel better and more rested if you add some physical activity to your routine. This may mean going to the hotel gym or just taking a walk to see the sites – just make sure you are doing something active every day. Remember, exercise will give your immune system a boost and release feel-good endorphins.

Staying Healthy While on Vacation

When it comes to going on vacation or if you plan to travel, you need to keep the tips above in mind to ensure that you stay healthy. When you do this, you will be able to enjoy your vacation and take advantage of all the fun things there are to do and see. You can also go to your doctor ahead of your vacation to get any vaccinations required to travel to different country.
